Media

The Media track operates in three interconnected areas: the educational field, the professional field, and the social-cultural field. The goals of the program have been derived from these areas, and they are:

  • Providing students with a high-level educational culture that enables them to continue their education for advanced degrees in higher education institutions, both in the country and abroad.

  • Training professionals at a high level in various media fields, equipping them with a broad theoretical and professional-applied culture. This culture gives students the tools and abilities to understand and analyze the structure and function of media and the processes that media undergoes. The program aims to provide graduates with professional skills and an updated "toolkit," as well as to develop creative competencies and abilities. This will enable graduates to integrate into various practical fields related to media: print journalism, digital journalism, television journalism, radio, television and documentary cinema, and strategic media (marketing and public relations).

  • Preparing a rising generation for shared life, enabling them to be a bridge between the two major communities in the country: the Arab community and the Jewish community.

The program will be taught in two languages—Arabic and Hebrew—and there is a clear integration between the two parts of the program: the theoretical and the applied sections.

The theoretical education in media will be in Hebrew to provide students with an academic background that suits their continuation for advanced degrees at various universities in the country. In the compulsory courses and introductory courses in Hebrew, which will include practical exercises (Introduction to Journalism and Media, Research Methodologies), the instructors will be students pursuing their third or second degree in media and are Arabic speakers to assist the students.

The enrichment stages (the State of Israel stage and the Culture and Arts stage) will also be in Hebrew. In some of the introductory courses of the general enrichment stage, which will be taught in Arabic, there will be a focus on understanding basic Hebrew terminology. The teaching in the third stage (History and Culture of the Middle East) will mostly be in Arabic. It is worth mentioning that many courses taught in Arabic will integrate relevant references in Arabic.

On the other hand, a large portion of the teaching in the applied section will be in Arabic to provide students with the necessary professional training for their integration into the labor market in the Arab community, especially in fields that require proficiency in Arabic at a native speaker level (journalism, radio, television).

Moreover, in the field of strategic media (marketing and public relations), which lies at the "cutting edge" between the Arab and Jewish communities, practical workshops will be held in both Hebrew and Arabic. This will prepare graduates of the program to work in the media sector in both Jewish and Arab media institutions.

Globalization processes, the rapid entry of media into our daily lives, and especially the advancement of technology, highlight the increasing need for enlightened and critical media consumers, and nothing less than that—the need to train media professionals with a broad general culture, academic-professional knowledge, and social empathy.

These developments and media needs have not bypassed the Arab world and the Arab community in the country. In recent decades, the media field has gradually developed in its various forms—print journalism, digital (electronic) journalism, television, radio, marketing, public relations, and social media networks. The current situation reveals a shortage of professionals with academic culture and specialized professional training in the field.

The Media program is designed to train graduates to integrate into the media field, equipping them with a broad educational culture in social sciences, humanities, and arts, as well as knowledge in various media fields. They will be provided with a rich and diverse set of tools to use in their future professional careers.
